Nothing major in the grand scheme of things, but my car would not start and I had to get it towed (after hours) in a strange state.
Can you spare a few that it's fixable (my car has 230K miles) and that it won't break the bank.

(68,644 posts)I shall add to them, unless it's CV joints.
Either way, best wishes!

(68,644 posts)They were the end of my Volvo V40 wagon.
I think that when they go it becomes hopeless.
I hope you are not among the group that suffers from bad CV joints.

(68,644 posts)It's more likely to be a fuel delivery or electronic problem, so much more kind than a transmission or drivetrain (CV) problem.
It might just be a fuse or a filter!

(30,947 posts)but it was expensive (like all car repairs) to fix.

Being away from home and having your car break down is pretty scary.
I hope it will be quickly fixed and you'll be on your way!

(24,146 posts)we don't think it is, but we'll see. we normally do our own repairs, but i was a privileged jackass all summer and didn't get her fixed. we're looking at single digits in a couple days and i have to have her back because the other car doesn't like to start when it's that cold.

(24,146 posts)my girl is an 82 volvo, so she's built like a tank. i always said i'd drive that car into the ground and although it's unlikely that's where we are, i'll be devastated if it is.

(6,336 posts)Mine's a 99 Forester and it's getting up there.
I travel a lot for work (on my 5th state in 3 years) and almost wish this happened last week when I was at home and my dad was there to help me.

(24,146 posts)and the secondary vehicle for about three years now. i'm just taking a shot on the mileage, the odometer broke at 248 eight or nine years ago (we've been together for 16 years), so it might be even lower.
i could talk about that car forever, i love her so much.

(50,130 posts)Still my favorite car, though.
One of them required me to unhook the battery every night because something was wrong with the electrical system.
One of them required me to open the hood with a crochet hook.
And that same car, unfortunately, was the victim of having the key broken off in the ignition so I turned it off and on with a screwdriver. That car had almost 300 thousand miles on it. I sold it on eBay for $35, finally. Ha!
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)got that repaired, though (years ago). when it's time to say goodbye, she'll go up on craigslist for someone who needs a dirt cheap car or has a new driver in the house.
this is only the second time in 16 years she hasn't run, she's been that reliable.
volvos are great cars, aren't they

(6,336 posts)It was the timing belt. The shop called me when I was on a crowded bus to work this morning (I am glad the bus was available) and it is repairable.
Need to call the shop back when it comes to $$$.

(24,146 posts)shouldn't be too much, either. glad they figured it out.

(14,881 posts)so long as it didn't take out your engine. I got mine replaced on my civic last spring at around 220K. Technically you're supposed to replace them every 100,000 miles, so at least now you'll be good until 330,000. Ouch on the bill.
And however expensive they are, it still beats buying a replacement car.
