..Reeves did a credible job but the addition of a child and other script changes turned the film into a sort-of-mush.
Most people who saw the film thought the child was "a smartass and stupid"
Not good for a story.

There was a child in the original version - the major change with the child is that in the newer version the boy was more assertive, the way that modern children are more assertive than those of the 1950s.
