I think you haven't posted these before. I don't recall them, and they are memorable, plus beautiful!

I especially like Goop and Light As A Feather.

I worked with an old program called Fractint. Fractint was a DOS based program that was more focused on the math side of things and so didn't have any real tools for taking artistic license with the fractals. You could select from a large list of math formulas that created fractals, like the famous Mandelbrot set, then play with zooming into them to find neat pics. It was great fun.

Where did you find these?

and has long since been ported to Windows.

I also cut my teeth on it. My problem with it was, being a DOS program, it was limited to a 256 color palette. My interest in fractals had begun with a book about fractals I'd bought at a bookstore. The color plates were true color, and the beauty and depth of them took my breath away. Unfortunately, it took quite a while for me to find a true color program to match my vision. Computing was quite a bit different back in the day!

I've tried and accepted or rejected many fractal programs over the years. Ultra Fractal is one of my favorites, as is Sterling. I am also quite fond of KPT FraxPlorer and FraxFlame.

I use Photoshop to manipulate the fractals- I play with the coloring, I colorize the background, I texturize things, I add shadow effects (thus offsetting the fractal from the background- this adds extra depth to the work), and to add even more depth I "frame" all my works with various borders. This separates the graphic from the page it's posted on and adds still more of a sense of depth.

The fractal is the beginning of my artistic process. I manipulate things a hundred different ways to change it from a pure fractal into fractal ART.

I fancy I'm pretty good at it. It's something I've always taken seriously. When I was really active I was fairly well known on the world stage. Now that I have my vision back perhaps I'll step things up again.
