He's studied classical guitar all his life, started as a hotshot blues boy at 11 or so, played blues quite a few years, then landed in Nashville and took up (sob!) c&w. Now he's got his own band again and is back to SRV-type blues as far as I know. I used to go to a biker bar called the Pines in Prescott, AZ to hear him play and of course I taped all the shows too. He did the best cover of Hurt I ever heard. Absolutely amazing guitarist AND writer/singer. In his late teens he was the early Clapton's equal, very soon SRV's as well. Never played metal as far as I know, but I'm sure he could. He's also well known as a Buddy Guy former protege. You should look him up, especially with his new band called appropriately enough, Simo.
Can't tell I'm a huge fan, can you? He should be a household name long before now, but he's shy and not all that good at self promotion. Nice, well reared young man too. When he tossed guitar picks out to the crowd, he'd come and hand one to me.
