(15,220 posts)Very sad, since it was obviously provoked.
I hope this woman gets a massive case of hemorrhoids.

(9,077 posts)A Detroit womans big heart got her into some serious trouble with a feline friend this week, after the cat she rescued from certain death and welcomed into her home, nearly tore her face off after she kicked snow at it for fighting with the family dog.
The entire cringe-inspiring altercation was caught on camera by Buddy the cats owner, who uploaded it to the internet through a viewer news submission tool. She explained that Buddy had been taken into her home as a stray after she learned he was about to face an early death on the receiving end of a bullet, and had never been anything other than sweet as pie in the house.
Flash forward to this week, when the woman went outside to break up a fight between Buddy and the family dog by kicking snow at the cat, causing him to spring like a ninja into the air and attack the womans face with a flurry of scratches and bites that look painful even on camera.
The attack sent the woman to the hospital where she was treated for deep bites to the forehead, which ended up becoming infected and manifesting into cellulitus, swelling up an entire side of her face.
Buddy has since been picked up by animal rescue and tested negative for rabies, and if everything goes well he should be back out in time for his next Ultimate Fighting Cat-ionship bout against the UPS guy this weekend.

(42,239 posts)that they would've killed the cat to do the test. Very sad that.

(16,950 posts)the woman wasn't evil about the cat, she just got in over her head without realizing how vicious it would become.

(44,973 posts)Considering that in order to be tested for rabies, Buddy had to be euthanized.

(17,621 posts)Cats, especially those that have been strays or ferals, can be extremely unpredictable. Even my spoiled housecats can be brats when they want to be. And just a few weeks ago, a DUer said that as a kid he/she had a friend whose family had a 20-pound tom cat made up mostly of muscle, teeth, and claws. The cat had to be taken away when it killed a neighbor's German Shepherd. If a cat feels threatened, no telling what it might do.

(32,822 posts)We had moved to a new house. First time she was let outside, I had to go rescue the neighbour. The cat had decided to set up shop on his back porch and no way, no hell was he going to be allowed in his own house.
One time the dog catcher picked her up. I found out she was at the pet control centre and went out to rescue her. They had put her in the psycho ward where they keep the ferals so she wouldn't upset the other cats. When she saw me she started trilling and purring and they were convinced I'd switched cats on them.

(50,566 posts)There are even stories of always-sweet-as-pie Golden Retrievers suddenly attacking and killing people.
I always consider myself an animal person but lately I've concluded I've got a latent fear of unknown dogs because I've had some bad experiences with dogs and witnessed some scary, unpredictable behavior over the years. Usually dogs can do a hell of a lot more damage than cats can, too.

(39,961 posts)and yes, my sweetie pie is deceptively strong when she is picked up and doesn't want to be a place where she doesn't want to be - she only weighs about 10 lbs, too.

scary cat
I wonder what we missed at the beginning of the video, seems to be more to the story than we see. Shit I bet that hurt but what was she kicking it away for - if it was about the dog, she kind of just left it out there anyway.
I can see she might have been in a bit of panic after that attack, though.
It is funny just on the surface though. Cat kicked her ass pretty good.

(18,101 posts)I removed the rofl guy. It's not as funny now.

(16,950 posts)I saw this on the news at the gym, and some of the back story is that she had taken the cat in (I forget the exact circumstances, it was feral or lost or something), so she wasn't entitrely heartless. I guess she just got more than bargained for in the cat and couldn't abide its behavior. I imagine that's why their interaction was being videotaped, and she was probably trying to protect someone or something else by engaging it like that.
Sad situation all around.

(14,881 posts)at the very end of the video clip. I wondered about its aggressive behavior, if it might have rabies.
That was very abnormal behavior, even with provocation. Most animals will run away; not fight back like that. It's too bad the cat had to be killed, but if it had rabies not only was that woman exposed, but anybody else who handled the cat would have been exposed and need to take the post-exposure rabies vaccine. Unfortunately, they still seem to only be able to confirm rabies by looking at the brain.
You don't have to actually get bitten. If any saliva gets on a cut or scratch -- and they can be microscopically small -- they would be at risk.

(8,601 posts)Okay SC, looks like you hit on a 3 or greater due to the Drone's horridly low Intelligence, Wisdom and Movement Speed on the slippery surface. Roll your d20!

I rolled a natural 20! Critical hit!

9 points of damage doubles to 18, GM!
Nice job, SC! The Ogre Drone has taken massive damage to the head region and is making a slow and clumsy retreat from your party! Give yourself a skill point in Melee Cat and a 1,000xp bonus.
EDIT - so I go through the trouble of creating this and trying to put some nerd humor into a thread, and then when I'm done I see all these new posts upthread about the whole story.
Whatever. I'm not taking it down. Think and say what you want. I'm truly sorry for both the woman and the cat, but FML.
