Our elder daughter had a childhood playmate up the street here in the German Rheinland when she was barely out of diapers. Her parents ended up getting divorced, and at age 16, her friend moved to a town about 2 hours north of here by car or train (half that by Autobahn if you are insane and willing to make the trip in the middle of the night driving 220 kph--we are neither). Our daughter then moved to the States at age 20 and has been there ever since. Her GF has since gotten into a steady relationship with a somewhat older guy, and now has her first child. Her friend is now 31, and our daughter is 30. As she has a job in the States, she has precious little vacation time. but she uses up half of it every year to come here at Christmas to see her German grandmother (her American grandmother passed away 11 years ago), and what friends of hers still live here in the Rheinland. But this time, she took a day, and went up north by train to visit her childhood friend and her baby. It had been "too long," and Facebook is no permanent substitute, just a placeholder.
This is what they posted on FB. Our "little" girl is the blonde one always on the left.
