Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just love having the flu at Christmas
I might miss the whole thing.
I was supposed to drive to SC tomorrow to my parents', but I don't think I feel up to driving 8 hours or so feeling the way I do. And I don't want to get everyone else sick either.
It wouldn't be such a bad thing to miss Christmas with the family, except that I have no food in the house and no one to go buy some for me. I certainly don't feel like it.
I ended up at Urgent Care today and got a prescription for Tamiflu. $64 for 10 pills and that's WITH insurance. I sure hope it helps. So far it's only made me nauseous and vomit.

Hang in there
I couldn't find a smiley that was appropriate
I have not had the flu in probably decades. And I know I should start getting flu shots, but I procrastinated and it hit me this year.

(5,311 posts)...I got hit like a sledge hammer on Friday. Started having coughing fits that felt like my lungs were going to shred.
The most intense one caused me to be unable to bring any air into my lungs for about a minute, it was like they collapsed and no air could get in.
I was crawling around the floor on my hands and knees, making horrid gasping noises, trying to yell to my girlfriend for help.
I don't know what she would have been able to do to help me, other than call 911, but by the time she got to me, I started to get some air, and start breathing again.
I can honestly say, I thought I was going to suffocate, it was the most terrifying experience I've ever had in my almost 59 years.
I think I'm on the mend now, less coughing, and I'm getting an appetite back.
I hope you're better asap, you really oughta try to get some food in you somehow, and stay hydrated!

Bone chills, weak in the knees, shattering coughs.
Christmas is cancelled. Told the folks to go back home.

(6,151 posts)Glad you made it. So I won't worry about you tomorrow, but you'll still be in my thoughts, you and everyone else who's ill. Hope you don't have to drive again before you're well rested and better. That flu can kick like a mule.
One med I wish was still on the market though I understand why not, is paregoric. Anyone over 40 or 50 will remember how extremely effective it was. Much better than coke syrup or even Immodium, which is itself peerless otc today. I swear if I lived close enough to Mexico, I'd try to go and buy some paregoric - if I thought they'd let me bring it back across the border. Just in case I ever got sick again, which I haven't been for at least 2 decades.
