OK, why does it take 14 days to permanently delete a facebook account???

I had an old one I thought I had not completely set up and never used, but I'm tired of being pestered by messages from them "do you know so-and-so?" I just went in and requested a permanent delete. It had been so long I didn't even remember the password; I had to request a new one. I finally got my request in, and got message saying it would take 14 days to get rid of them. I notice they make this as difficult as they can!

All my shit was still there. They removed it not long after I contacted them about it. I say removed, but it's probably still there somewhere..

I can come up with is that maybe over the years they've had people (most likely teenagers) who, in fits of rage or hissy, wanted their accounts deleted, but after calming down they changed their minds.

Repeatedly.

So they're giving people time to decide whether they really want their accounts deleted.

I dunno...

Several years ago when I wanted to leave FB they flat out told me they do not delete accounts. They said I should just change my password to something I'll never remember and walk away...

or are the messages from them only when you are on FB?

TONS of people walking away, the news reports. FB has jumped the shark with its too obvious attempts to make money by in your face ads.

sounds about like having a eBay account with paypal, when you close a eBay account, your account isn't officially closed closed, they keep send you messages like, (exaggeration here) do you really, really really really really really really want to close your account? because if you do (warning) (warning) you won't be able to sell or buy for up to 6 months or ??

Let me be snarky a bit, are you closing your FB account because you recently heard of it being hacked by goaters or are you worried about the NSA? what've you got to hide!!!??? just kidding of course.

Besides, I never used it, and messages saying "do you know so-and-so" when it's somebody I never heard of before in my life creeps me out. Just think of me as a somewhat younger female version of Walt Kowalski in "Gran Torino."

sounds like my neighbors in our apartment complex talking about other neighbors.

I never did FB or Twitter myself, but I can imagine what it's like,

e.g., my wife's 1/2 sister Ms. Promiscuous's other (not real husband) has a FB page, showing her with him, and the "love child" just like a family photo, and as if that wasn't enough to turn my gut inside out, her real husband believes the "love child" is his, even after 20+ years, and her husband doesn't know about her secondary relationship at all. Nobody has the intestinal fortitude to tell "him" (poor sucker) that his "fortunate son" isn't really his.

Why Brigid, I can't even attend family functions anymore, one because I'm afraid I might have a slip of the tongue, and two, I might need to bring my own barf bucket, and three, I don't know Judy Collins well enough to invite her too so she could sing "Send In The Clowns" because at every "family" gathering, there's a piece missing, and it's almost laughable, if it weren't so sad.

Stay warm Cub fan, stay warm.
