It's a conspiracy between dryer manufacturers and sock mills.
Owners of sock mills subsidize dryer manufacturers to put a sock grinder in every machine.

Ever wonder where that "lint" in the dryer filter comes from?
You guessed it.
Ground socks.

So, the dryer guys make a few more bucks from the sock millers.
And the sock millers sell more socks.
Win-Win.
