I went out for a smoke, so maybe I'm missing some context to her performance.

Specifically, when The Police broke up after their last tour, in 1983.
I saw them on the Synchronicity tour.

There is nobody in pop music now that I think is any good except Lady Gaga. Some metalhead girl laughed at me when I said that Lady Gaga was quite talented.

I am a mid 50 something and find those amongst very good/listenable music. We stream Radio Paradise and hear lots of good stuff.

Sadly, didn't hear anything remotely close tonight!

surprisingly . it seems like they only played 1 song from them after they won. but they have so many others and even that one song i don't hear anymore.

it's always the same rihanna song, katy perry, avril lavigne .

or was that some kind of terrible put-on accent?

Maybe she's a better rapper than she is a singer. She'd damn near have to be if she can rhyme two words with any kind of meter. But I saw no evidence if either tonight.

There has been some terrific performances tonight though - Jennifer Hudson, Adele, Foo Fighters - all were very good.

I don't normally care for Taylor Swift (I've seen her sing off key so many times I wondered if she was all studio and little talent) but I thought she was pretty great tonight.

to write about crappy dudes in her life?

Although, for some reason,. I hear more pain in Adele's songs than in Taylor Swift's...I'm sure there are a lot of reasons for that..including my personal preference for Adele over TS....but at least they both write songs - that's more than we can say for some of these pop stars...

the Foo Fighters came on.

Sometimes I wonder if it's me getting old and grumpy, or if the music from the last +/- 15 years just sucks big time.

Maybe a little of both. I mean, there are some artists I like. Never heard Bruno Mars before seeing him last night but really enjoyed his act. I like Adele. Maybe a few others.

But mostly the music stinks. Not even melodic. Just a jangle of noise and shitty singers.

As far as I'm concerned, most of the good stuff died somewhere mid 1990s.

I wanted to see what they'd say about Whitney Houston, then I got sucked in.

Never heard of or seen this Bruno Mars kid before, but DAMN was that a performance! Made the girlfriend-beater look like warmed over shit.

Also seeing a big girl with a cockney accent and an actual singing voice take over the show in the current pop music climate was refreshing to say the least.

I turned it off in the middle of Chris Brown's thing. Can't stand watching that dude. But I did hit record. I'll skim through the rest of the show later. (Three and a half hours? Yikes!) First time in a long time I haven't completely hated pop music. A really long time.

Mon Feb 13, 2012, 01:23 PM
Feb 2012

I am not a fan of many of the people who performed but thousands of people are and I'm always up for hearing what excites people. I don't care for Chris Brown's music or persona but he did what he's paid to do and did it well. I thought Nikki Minaj was hysterical and sure as hell doubled down on Madonna's call out of the Catholic church...and I'll bet she's not thrilled that Whitney scooped her shock value. I don't know who on earth Deadmau5 is but, damn. It turned my head around. I love things that do that. Adele was a delight with her "Fank you! Fank you!" When she won I turned to my friend who was watching with me and said "Take THAT, skinny bitches!" and had a good laugh. I adored seeing the Beach Boys and everyone who took the stage with them and loved, loved, LOVED the finale. Glenn Campbell was creepy and heartbreaking all at once. How could that not be fascinating?

Music is magic. I can fall in love with it in almost any form and I don't for a minute believe that anyone with no talent was on that stage, even when they or their work isn't my cuppa, and I don't understand how anyone could feel that way.
