(29,098 posts)It took a lot for me not to peek at it on line.....But I was so busy a few months ago...I didn't have time.
Set the DVR and I am so ready....

(21,675 posts)I could watch it now online, but it's just not the same watching DA on a tiny screen. My timer is set! Do you watch Doc Martin as well? I wonder when the next season of that is coming...

(11,065 posts)To watch on the tv. No waiting for the next episode, no commercials, and I can watch them over and over.

(28,254 posts)Interesting details, but no troublesome spoilers. Good reading.

(11,065 posts)All of season 4 already aired in the UK, so all the episodes are already online.

(3,922 posts)I watched the first three seasons, but the show is dreadfully boring.
What's its appeal?
elleng
(130,865 posts)excellent writing, history, but OK if you find it boring. I don't care for Breaking Bad.
Vashta Nerada
(3,922 posts)It's one of the 3897523895734987534 things in my queue to watch right now.

(130,865 posts)he was essentially AWOL for almost a month, watching everything. I saw it once and said

(21,925 posts)The cinematography is wonderful and so is the acting. The locations are beautiful. It's the lack of plot or interesting events in the characters' lives that leaves me cold. I came away feeling that it was a little bit of a soap opera set in Edwardian England. There's a lot of people sitting around sipping tea and having crumpets with conversations in an English accent like: "I'm afraid I've engaged in a bit of farting this morning and it's left me rather disconsolate and enervated." I'm kidding of course but I really wanted to like it, as I usually love all things English of past periods. Maybe I need to watch it more.
Vashta Nerada
(3,922 posts)I have it on right now and I already want to fall asleep.
elleng
(130,865 posts)maybe a style you can't enjoy.
Vashta Nerada
(3,922 posts)I don't dislike it because it's British, however. I absolutely love Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Game of Thrones. All of those star British actors.
elleng
(130,865 posts)but contains lots of stuff about history and culture that makes it interesting to me.

(60,010 posts)or cultural differences.
There are some shows that are wildly popular ( Walking Dead, for instance) that I simply do not "get" .
Downtown Abbey is, on one level, "high camp" to use an older expression
I like the era it portrays, the different characters are well written, for the most part.
For some people it is "too slow".
There is a lot going on under the surface, tho.
Season 5 ( being filmed now) is suppsoed to be the last season.
The writer has a new series in the works.

(2,388 posts)I'm watching the premiere and don't get something. Can't think of his name right now but the
tall young man who worked as a servant who died last season from war wounds (and married the young kitchen maid before he died) is now alive and well this season? Huh? What am I missing? This season's guy is called Alfred.
elleng
(130,865 posts)there have been replacements among the staff.

(175,731 posts)Alfred is another character entirely, though he's a footman, the same as William was.
Lodestar
(2,388 posts)when it was discovered that Ms O'brien left he was in the kitchen with the other servants and said "I know she's my aunt
but she's always been a dark horse". Wasn't William O'Brien's nephew last season?
greatauntoftriplets
(175,731 posts)They're both tall blonds, but other than that, I don't think they look alike.
Lodestar
(2,388 posts)that married Daisy last season.
greatauntoftriplets
(175,731 posts)William was heavier set than Alfred, if that helps.
Lodestar
(2,388 posts)in the process and mixed up the characters.
