A little warm up and then a freeze can really create those buggers and before you know it you have water damage.

They do have some little ice melts that look like hockey pucks that are safe for the roof. I suggest using those to save a lot of worry.

I had them one year, and one year ONLY, thank goodness, and they really created quite the havoc.
