Late night is maintenenance time, and that can slow things down if your sevice provider is busy doing things like that.

someone else just posted that the site goes down for maintenance & backup around the time it seems to go out for me. so...that's probably why.

i wonder why it only effects some users. you said it was okay at your end.

huh--computers are such a mystery to me.

DU used to begin site maintenance just after 11pm Pacific, and if you posted at around 11:07 your post would appear two or even three times, all with the same timestamp.

DU's IT guru, Elad, later changed the maintenace time to later and eliminated that glitch--I think.

But I know Elad's still out to get us.

It's a daily maintenance thing the servers do. For me being on the east coast it happens around 4 a.m. I've long since just gotten used to it. It only lasts about 15 or 20 minutes anyway. Funny, but I've noticed that a number of sites do the daily maintenance at the same time... Home Depo's website always seems to go down at the same time that DU does, but their's takes nearly an hour to finish before you can get back in.

After all, this is Elad we're talking about here... with just a few seemingly innocuous keystrokes he could possibly by-pass your old school helmet cloaking device. But at least you have upgraded from the inside out potato chip bag helmet.

14. Indeed most sites perform daily maintenance at about this time....

In fact every site should do it if they are smart. Daily backups and maintenance are key to keeping a site operating smoothly. And of course they should be performed in the wee hours of the night/morning to keep from pissing off most users. Of course it's impossible to prevent hurting all users. I myself am a night owl and often come across these issues more often than the majority.

Usually I chalk up late night down time to backup and maintenance procedures and the like.
