Since yesterday every time I open a thread I get this "play free" ad.
Close ups of women's breasts and butts. Women viewed as nothing more than sexual playthings.
I've tried to ignore it, but it's playing on EVERY SINGLE THREAD I open.
I'm sick and tired of it

DU carries ads generated by the Google Adwords program. These ads are auto-displayed based on keywords and while a website can apply filters and categories to weed out inappropriate ads, they can't catch them all.
Let the administrators know about the ad and they will have it taken down - that is unless, the ad showing is the result of a malware infection on your personal computer.

(38,309 posts)You may be able to download malwarebytes in another browser (you do have another browser, don't you???) or on another computer.
http://www.malwarebytes.org/free (Some malware will block or redirect you from this anti-malware site, so be careful.)
It's also possible your computer is entirely hosed and will require much research and effort to restore.
Which browser and operating system are you using? (though I hardly need to ask...)
Check out the computer help and support group on DU.

(38,309 posts)I've also blocked some of the more pernicious advertising providers, but not google.
I also don't let browser cookies or cached items live longer than a day.
It saves me seeing a lot of stuff I don't want to see.
Most of the ads I see are for technical stuff.
I'm not likely to buy anything else so I guess it works out well for me and the advertisers.
There are browser plugins for Windows that allow one to accomplish the same sorts of things, but I'll leave it for other people to recommend those since I don't use them myself.
Part of me says it's not fair to aggressively block ads on sites that are supported by advertising. I'll occasionally look at DU without logging in to see what non-members see, and I rarely see the ads people are complaining about. But it's pretty clear google ads doesn't well police its advertising content classifications.

ETA: But I don't think that's the problem. My computer is running fine and I only get the ad here on DU

(3,518 posts)It seems like it shows up constantly for a few days then it goes away.
I'm actually more creeped out about the "Meet Asian Girls" one that used to appear. At least that stupid game is using animated women, who knows what happens to the real women who get mixed up with marriage brokers.
Maybe the best answer is to donate and block the ads.

(17,183 posts)It's not malware. Just a regular ad pop-up. Contribute a few bucks to DU and it goes away.
