There is a saying in Mexico that closely approximates the sentiment:

"A buén palo the arrimas"

Which says (sarcastically):

" 'tis a barren tree you've come to for shade"

Tyrion is my favorite character of the whole lot.

I'll take your word for it, though.

my favorite scene in the books was (spoilers): the trial by combat between The Red Viper and The Mountain. Plus, Joff going out like a baby was satisfying, too.

As I said, the Red Wedding gets all the publicity, but the last 1/3 of A Storm of Swords has a lot of hugely important things as well, and many of my favorite scenes of the entire series.

Not just the pieces I mention in post 6, but so many others:

"Only Cat"

Do you know anything or have an opinion on what will happen with Ygritte? I know what the book says.

However, I like the series far more than I do the books, so...

The casting of Rose Leslie as Ygritte showed real consideration and talent, though this is true for a majority of the roles in the show.

Spoiler: I hoped the writers would see fit to extend her existence and love affair with Jon, but it doesn't look like it.

In the same vein, I am pleased to see that casting came to their senses and replaced pretty boy Ed Skrein with Michiel Huisman as Daario Naharis, the Tyroshi captain serving Daenerys. And by serving, I mean believable chemistry because anything else just runs the risk of bad taste/gratuitous sex.
