Around me, we always use (thinly veiled) code words to make deals.

then check the paper for sales. They rotate the sales around and any store will let you use the store card for the sale price. Done correctly you can wash your clothes for pennies.

Cleaning products are the items where a little research can equal big savings.

It's cheap and cleans just as well as the more expensive brands. Of course, I am single and one large container lasts for a couple of months.

But if you shop at krogers, you can load a $1.50 digital coupon for ALL laundry detergent to your kroger card online, and it's $3.49 on sale this week for 32-50 oz, so $1.99 (for 40 loads).

I buy mine at the dollar store. Several kinds to pick from. Comes in a big bottle. I go to Dollar Tree. Washes the same as more high price soap.

If it's a quilt saturated in urine, the cheap stuff doesn't work well enough. Tide Sport with Febreze is the detergent to do the job... and a 2nd rinse cycle for adding fabric softener. This used to be a daily chore but my son's last surgery (I lost count over the past 10 years) did wonders.

So the Tide @ $11 a bottle for the stinky stuff and $5 for the ultra cheap brand for everything else. So detergent costs have decreased due to fewer stinky wet loads.
