(13,447 posts)Tom Hanks got left out for both of his movies. Nice to see Barkhad Abdi get nonimated though.
Nice to see Lupita Nyong'o got nominated for Best Supporting Actress. I hope she wins.
Surprised that "Inside Llewyn Davis" got left out from everything.
Pleseantly surprised that American Hustle had someone nominated in all four acting categories.

(448 posts)I didn't think Gravity was that great. I love Sandra Bullock but don't think she shold have gotten nomination for this. Just my 2cents. Now I have to see Nebraska. I was already going to see Dallas and some of the others. I loved American Hustle and am thrilled with their noms.

(20,886 posts)There was some pretty astounding stuff going on there. Notably the single (very long) pan from out in space to inside the helmet and back out. My jaw dropped on that one.
Bullock, not so much. Granted, a tough roll carrying the entire movie virtually by herself, but I suspect there are other actors who were better. This is not to denigrate Bullock. I've always thought she was underrated as an actress.

(41,959 posts)He's an old Seattle comedy alum (Almost Live!) who went on to make the movie big time. In fact I think he was one of the perpetrators of the April Fool's joke that put out the elaborate announcement that The Space Needle had fallen over and scared the bejeezus out of the more labile among us.

(1,355 posts)All is Lost, and I agree that Sandra Bullock was ok but not great, wasn't that fond of Gravity. I also liked Chritian Bale's performance in Out of the Furnace better than American Hustle.

(31,011 posts)Not surprised though.
No Tom Hanks and no Robert Redford. That surprised me actually.
I'm more disappointed that Blackfish wasn't nominated in the documentary category although there are a few good ones.
