The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI am just about to turn 51. Is anyone the voice of my generation?
As far as I can tell, nobody, in all this time has emerged as the voice of the late Baby Boomer generation.
Am I wrong?
And, if I am not, then don't you think somebody ought to finally step up?

(4,243 posts)I never thought I'd live to see the day I'd be saying I'm 3 months older than the President. He's about the only that I can think of that can represent.

(54,341 posts)I guess I can't be doing too badly, as an accountant told me to start thinking about what I'll do with my retirement account in a few years. I asked when I could take money out of it without penalty, and he said not before age 59 plus six months, so not for a few years yet. I explained that I would turn 62 this year, and he couldn't believe it. I had met with him in August and he forgot my birth year.
As for voices of my generation, I guess I could choose between Bill Clinton and Bruce Springsteen?

Actually it was one of those experimental sort of times of life, so my memory's a bit rusty on most of it

(46,699 posts)Too young to enjoy all the good stuff.
However, I will say that old farts like Reagan and Bush I really put a dent in giving the Baby Boomers a voice until Bill Clinton came along. And, Obama may be on the tail end too. I'm not sure if he considers himself part of that generation.

(484 posts)I still think of Bob Dylan as my voice. The Times They Are a Changing, Blowin' In the Wind, and this one:
He speaks to things that still haven't changed and still need work.

(11,360 posts)If our generation did have a "voice", we would probably disagree with most of what it was saying, but people would assume we agreed with it anyway.
Don't be a stereotype: the only voice you need is your own.
