Consider the following --
-- I cry at the drop of a hat.
-- I don't know a lot of music beyond what I grew up with during high school and college
-- he sneaks songs onto my mp3 player
-- I hear a song I don't recognize...so I listen
-- It's "Cats in the Cradle" by some guy named Harry Chapin
-- I'm crying like an idiot in the middle of the office in front of everybody and they're looking at me as if I'm brain-damaged
He did it to me a few months ago with a song called "Sullivan" by a group called Caroline Spine. I damn near wailed-out in tears when THAT punch came. Then I found out it's based on a true story. That song puddles me up just thinking about it. "Seasons in the Sun" also got me pretty bad.
This is sabotage!

(19,497 posts)My boss barely reacts anymore; he just shakes his head and walks into his office.
But yeah, I'll keep him -- just as soon as I kill him.

gratuitous
(82,849 posts)But even if it's only moderately sad, there might be an excuse for a sensitive person to cry over it. "Muskrat Love" might cause the same reaction, compounded by the fact that it's . . . frickin' Muskrat Love, you know?

(19,339 posts)And as I rounded the corner, boy, I got one heck of a shock--
Eighteen-wheelers were lined up for three city blocks!
Why, I guess every driver for miles around had caught Teddy Bear's call
And that little crippled boy was having a ball.
For as fast as one driver would carry him in,
Another would carry him to his truck and take off again.
Well, you better believe I took my turn at riding Teddy Bear
And then I carried him back in and put him down in his chair.
And, buddy, if I never live to see happiness again
I want you to know I saw it that day, in the face of that little man.

(8,747 posts)Certainly one of Chapin's best works. You could also watch Mr. Tanner
Better yet, ask Hubby for Chapin's Gold Medal Collection.

(10,624 posts)In a way, I really, really hate that Harry Chapin song. But I hate it for all the right reasons. It makes me want to cry, too.
My Dad has been gone for, oh, I guess six or seven years now. We were pretty close, and although he was not perfect, I never felt like he abandoned me or didn't leave room for me in his life. I miss him, but I appreciate all the things he did for me.
With two wonderful boys of my own, I have always resolved myself never to be the "man in the moon" who they never see or get to spend time with. They have been the primary focus of my life for the last two years. (Before that, they shared space with my wife, but she apparently doesn't want that role anymore.)
All the money, power, success, and women in the world would mean nothing to me compared to my sons. I only hope I have made the best choices for them over the course of the last difficult few years. I have tried to do so, and they do seem happy.
Listen to the Nickel Creek lighthouse song. It's awesome!!

(13,421 posts)Oo oo now baby....
Tell me how have you been
We all have missed you....
And the way you grin
The day is necessary....
Every now and then
For souls to move on....
Givin' life back again, and again
Fly on fly on....
Fly on my friend
Go on....
Live again....
Love again
Day after day....
Night after night
Sittin' here singin' every minute....
As the years go passing by....
By, by, by
Long look in the mirror....
We've come face to face
Wishin' all the love we took for granted....
Love we have today
Life without you....
All the love you passed my way
The angels have waited for so long....
Now they have their way
Take your place...
I still can't hear it and not choke up. Damn.

The climax of the "1812 Overture"...cannons...bells...
OMG!!!
I suppose all by itself it wouldn't work...I need the whole buildup thing and then when it gets to the end I'm a big weepy mess.
Hubby sometimes like to play this in the car with the sound turned up at the end, heavy on the bass because he knows it makes me weepy.
Like a catharsis or something...

(719 posts)...if your weeping threshold is that low, then please do not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ever listen to a song by Peter Gabriel called "Don't Give Up." If you feel the masochistic urge to listen to it anyway, if only to satisfy your curiosity, be sure that all sharp objects are removed from your immediate vicinity. It would be best if you did not consume alcohol before listening. That song is enough to make men stronger than me weep....and I laughed when E.T. died.
