Has www.nbcnews.com been hacked by Anonymous, or did they simply

just change their homepage to a hideous format?

I got up to see if school was going to be delayed this morning, so I turned on
my computer. My home page is www.nbcnews.com. Instead of the more
concise list of news for the day, the page is huge pictures and the top story/pic
is about Anonymous.

Ugh I won't be able to use their website anymore if this is a real change.

For the last several years I have checked their homepage multiple times a day, and would quickly scan
all the headlines, which were concisely listed in a text format by category: business, world, entertainment,
etc. Now it's a series of huge pictures for each story; can't see many headlines at all without endless
scrolling; doesn't organize those headlines by category..........the way it is now, I'll have to scroll
past sports stories (blech) and other things not of interest over and over again. Yuck.

Huge pictures, almost no text.

I guess they are catering to kids or the illiterate crowd.

I changed my home page to CBS News for right now, until I find something better.

Whoever had that "bright" idea should be fired.

Awful! And I looked to see if there was a configuration option to switch back but didn't find one. I thought I might have gotten to their "mobile" page by mistake but no such luck. I think they will have to go back and make a compromise. There is no way that this format is going to be more popular for the bulk of users.

As tablets take over, design principles that were established in the day of the desktop, will be replaced with frameworks that favor smaller, portrait screens.

Not saying I'm happy about it. And, I wish they were willing to take a mobile approach* to it. But, here we are.

*Mobile approach meaning providing appropriate content to the appropriate screens.

Unfortunately, we'll be seeing more of this. "Optimizing" for tablets and other touchscreen devices seems to be a case of dumbing down functionality. Screw that.

I hate it when established web sites are mangled like this. There was no reason for such a radical redesign. I cringe whenever I open it. I use NBC and USA Today for my quick "go-to's" for news updates during the day, so this is especially annoying.
