I'm beginning to think that sporting "events" of this type are all about keeping people from being engaged. The bread and circuses school of governing.
Sure, we all need diversion. And "different strokes for different folks".
But the manipulation of the Olympics and the damage that football does to the players are just keeping me away from it.
This rant was brought on by watching The Running Man last night.
I'll shut up now.
Well, mostly. If someone wants to engage, I'll engage. Until I get bored or busy: Whichever comes first.

(7,321 posts)bread and circus school of governance - complete with the flag waving, war anthem nationalistic fervor makes my skin crawl. Is Running Man a film?
Saw a Jesse Owens documentary a few nights ago on PBS. That was an eye opener. Thought I already knew the story, but not really.
Thank goodness for good films, and my own music for pleasure and entertainment.

Ahnold was in it. And Richard Dawson.

(10,575 posts)Los Angeles (CNN) -- Richard Dawson, the longtime host of "Family Feud" known for planting kisses on female contestants, has died, his son said in a statement Sunday. He was 79.
...
Dawson told the Archive of American Television in a 2010 interview that his trademark move started early on in the show's run, when he saw a woman shaking as she struggled to come up with the name of a green vegetable.
"I said, 'I'm gonna do something that my mom would do to me whenever I had a problem of any kind. ... And I kissed her on the cheek, and I said, 'That's for luck.' And she said, 'Asparagus.' ... They went on to win," he said.
