KCET.org video about my friend, GERMS...

...aka Jaime Zacarias, an artist I have been working with and collecting for almost 10 years now.

I do various things for Jaime -- his web site, digital stuff like laser engraving, and most recently co-designed with him some GERMS floor lamps which were exhibited last September 10-Dec 7 at the Vincent Price Art Museum (the lamps are shown in the video).

Also appearing in the video is Cheech Marin - who is the collector of Chicano Art - and who has recently started collecting GERMS' work.

The video is at the link below:

On edit: KCET is the former PBS affiliate in Los Angeles, but has been an independent community broadcaster for some time now.

Also, the GERMS video will be broadcast on Channel 28 in the Los Angeles area this Thursday, February 13, at 9 PM.

My mom did an LVN program at E.L.A.C. During the late 60's. I took some classes there in the late 90's. While there I loved the Vincent Price Museum, and thought it was so cool he really supported the arts in East L.A.

Thanks, denbot!

Besides the performing arts, one of the things I enjoyed most was the murals. And the rich diversity of the culture. L.A., NYC and Boston are my favorite big cities.

The producers of the KCET piece did a great job, IMO.

Very accurate presentation, in a very limited amount of time, of what Jaime is up to.

There was a lot to absorb, with some of the community history going back to Los Four at LACMA and Magu, but it was very well done and Cheech Marin was very effective. I'll have to see about making it down to Hollywood. Thanks for the heads-up.

Most of my taste in art and design dates from Art Deco backwards. Although I am partial to Rivera. Don't like Picasso, etc. I think Pollack was nuts. Don't even get me started on Cristo! But for some reason I do like GERMS. A lot. Figure out the difference if you can - I don't understand it. But it's the truth and therefore worth noting.
