1. Yikes! That's a tough one.

On the one hand, you don't want to totally disregard the fact that it's VD, on the other hand, you don't want to appear a little crazy and over do it.

Any info on likes/dislikes? Since it's so early in the relationship, maybe something simple, but sweet. Flowers, but not roses? Happy, pretty bouquet? That's pretty generic which is why I asked about likes/dislikes... For me, salted caramels would be a wonderful little pick me up with no pressure attached. Or, as a coffee lover, a really nice coffee blend and fun coffee cup. It's really hard not knowing the person.

But, I will say it again. Keep it small and thoughtful, nothing over the top, just a simple, it's VD, I was thinking of you, and here's a little something to show you that.

You can't really do much more than that when heading to a party. So, you don't want to bring anything too big to carry easily.
Although, you may want to carry a safety pin, just in case there is a decision of cutting the stem of the rose to pin it on her chest. -shrugs-

I totally mentally immediately went to condoms, classy porn and imported beer.

I'd go low-key and playful, something that acknowledges the day while not being too serious. For example, remember those cheesy valentines from grade school. Give her one of those and a small sampler box of chocolates or a bundle of wildflowers. It says "It's Valentine's Day and you're my valentine." without being inappropriately sentimental or forward. It's just the right measure of cheesy and serious.

and it's a romance, as you indicated, not a casual date. If you give her anything else besides red roses, it will be obvious you put thought into it, and then you decided not to get her red roses. See what I mean? Red roses are for Valentines, and you want a romance with this woman. If you didn't or don't, then don't take her out anywhere on Valentines day.

Do you have a Victoria's Secret close by? I'm not talking about the intimate apparel gifts yet, but they have fragrances that are very nice and very popular. Can you tell by what she wears so far when you're out what kind of fragrances she likes? If not, ask the saleswoman at the shop, that's what they are there for. Get something really popular. I know sometimes people can be allergic, but usually they aren't, and a nice new fragrance is a way to get something intimate without it being intimate.
