I used to think squirrels were 'cute'.
Until they chewed the insulation off the ignition wires on my truck.
TWICE.
$200 and change to have it rewired both times.

Until they invaded our attic and walls and that was $850 to have the house 'squirrel-proofed'.

Now I have a .22 with a scope and I shoot them on sight.
Take no prisoners.

And I now understand the phrase "Rats with fluffy tails".

But I do know that they can be destructive. I have had ignition wires chewed as well, but it was chipmunks.

It is a good idea to have the house squirrel-proofed anyways, since there are a lot of other critters that can also get in if squirrels can. I have no idea how, but I had a squirrel get into my basement once. I now own a squirrel-sized Havaheart trap.

'cause predators got to eat. It's not the hawk's fault squirrels are made out of meat.

I just don't want to watch.

In this video, no one was hurt. Squirrel lived to see another day, but hawk did not starve to death because of this one miss.

but it makes a similar point.

P.S: You're not a "terrible person," kid: your residence has one less mouse, and it could have as just easily have died as an exterminator's hand -- or even worse, bred. And though you didn't help the mouse as you intended, you DID help out the hawk!

Even though I know this often would happen, I would hate to see it happen just as I did the release. Couldn't wait for the kid to get in the house, huh?

At least I am glad that I didn't really "see" the capture.

To get that 100 hours it may have taken a few years in the field to collect enough video to edit into that few minutes
It's just being lucky, ya' know. Being in the right place at the right time . . . Day after day.

Although I hope the hawk didn't go hungry long.

I'm a fan of anything that reduces the number of rodents that plague me. Even when the rodents are cute.
