(66,096 posts)I thought it was worse.
I'm very disappointed with "The Hobbit" series so far.
I was hoping to have a companion piece to "The Lord Of The Rings" Extended Cut DVD series I have and watch over and over.
It's not to be...

(24,146 posts)i know the book is as dear to your heart as it is to mine and i wasn't expecting complete accuracy, but this is abysmal.
You must have read the post I put up a few years ago detailing all of the editions of The Hobbit that I own:
A paperback reading copy, a limited edition with slipcover, The Annotated Hobbit, an illustrated version with specially commissioned watercolor paintings, a German-language edition, and a Latin-language edition. There might be a few more, but I think that's the bulk of them
Oh well; I can always go back to my own mind-movie of what I think The Hobbit should have been...

Someday, I'll have to have it appraised.

(59,940 posts)Hence the problem in our view....just milking way too much out of what would have been a charming single movie...oh well!

(6,261 posts)We just watched it the other day. It's main problem is that it doesn't know what kind of movie it wants to be: a light-hearted adventure for kids, a comedy, or a grand-adventure. It's an omnishambles of CGI that feels way too busy and video-game like. They short-changed us on things that were actually in the book, such as the journey through Mirkwood, the barrel-ride, and Beorn, and crammed it with extra material.
Legolas and Tauriel? Just awful.
I'm not a purist when it comes to this book, as I never loved it the way I loved LOTR. I even liked the Rankin-Bass 1977 cartoon, but this is an utter mess.
Worse than the first instalment even.

(28,939 posts)The Hobbit should have been made first, a full bodied feature length film. Make the name, make the money. Then, LOTR and blow the doors off.
It's truly sad watching the actors try to do something with a thin, too often silly, script.
