Ticket sold in Calif. wins $425M Powerball jackpot

MILPITAS, Calif. (AP) — The lone winning ticket for the $425 million Powerball jackpot was sold at a convenience store in central California, but there was no immediate word on who may have won one of the largest lottery jackpots in U.S. history.
The winning numbers drawn Wednesday night were: 1, 17, 35, 49, 54 and a Powerball of 34.
California lottery officials said the ticket was sold at Dixon Landing Chevron in Milpitas, a city about 10 miles north of San Jose. The business will receive $1 million for selling the winning ticket.
Rajwinder Singh, an employee at the Chevron store, said late Wednesday that he believed he was probably the person who sold the winning ticket.

3. I keep telling people I don't know that they're complaining about.

I not only live in New England. I live on top of a mountain. I have a 2' tall garden gnome that is currently under snow and will likely remain so until April. (I just checked. The top 2" of Gnorman are sticking out of the snow.)

I have to put on snowshoes to go get the mail. I have to carry a revolver to take the trash out because I've taken the trash out twice only to turn around and find a bear between me and the mud-room door. (You don't shoot the bear. That just pisses him off. You shoot the ground because he doesn't like the noise.) The local pizza delivery guy tells me the website may say 4-mile delivery area but they don't do deliveries over 1800' above sea-level when there is snow on the ground. There's snow on the ground 5 months of the year and it can snow 8 months of the year. The heating bills are higher than an NYC rent.

On the plus side, I have lovely valley-views of the Farmington Valley. Most of the neighbors have horses. There's room to build a horse barn. The restaurants in town are well above average...part of some insane plan by the local town planner to make us the "Aspen of the East" (They trademarked that shit. It's mockery-worthy.) Also, there are B&Bs, the town has a carol-sing at the holidays, more miles of hiking trails than any other town in CT and the Autumn leaves are amazing.

4. I wouldn't mind the cold so much if I had the money to live as you are now.

Hell, I didn't complain when we had a rambling brick ranch. There was a Jacuzzi in a room surrounded by sliding glass doors. I could watch the snow falling while enjoying the warm moving water. My only bear problems involved the outside bird feeders. Although one of my neighbors showed up at my door because he was afraid of the bear on his back porch.

I hear you on the heating bills. Mine was higher than the mortgage on the house.
