The laptop problems continue.

A wiping of the drive and installation of new xp software have not stopped the blue screens, nor has deleting Google Chrome and installing Firefox. Something is causing the system to lock up, after only a half hour of runtime. We are at a loss as to the root cause.

It looks like a repeat of last Sunday. I was looking forward to getting back at it, and entertaining DU on Sunday again. Perhaps next week. We'll see.

Until then, DU, leave a lamp in the window, and some kibble in the dish.

Sounds like a possible thermal issue. Are all fans functioning properly? PoliticAverse Feb 2014 #1

Have you removed and reinserted the memory boards?

In fact, this latest bluescreen came up after only minutes of running, and the fans not kicking into high, as they have when it happened previously.

And no I haven't. As anyone can tell you, I'm a technomoran, and owner of ten thumbs. Better to have someone comfortable with it do it.

The odd thing is, after the new XP was installed, my friend ran it for hours, surfing all over and it worked fine. Here, after only a few hours Sunday night, they came back again.

Most probable causes:

(1) Failing memory module. Download and run Memtest 86 Free Edition to check if you have a bad module.

(2) If a module has failed, you will have to replace it.

(3) Overheating due to fan failure, or clogged cooling system. Replace fan and / or clean system.

So I could copy the error messages and stop codes down.

Monday, it bluescreened, then shut down as I was taking notes.
