move a ton of freight nearly 450 miles on a single gallon of fuel

Fuel Efficiency

Moving freight by rail is 3 times more fuel efficient than moving freight on the highway.
Trains can move a ton of freight nearly 450 miles on a single gallon of fuel. Efficient use
of fuel means fewer greenhouse gas emissions for our planet.

LOL. Sorry... Couldn't resist!

That video looks like it was filmed in the part of the country I drove through today. I'm in Phoenix and came across West Texas, NM and up here to Phoenix today. One of the busiest rail corridors in the country parallels I-10 for hundreds of miles. On some stretches out here, long freights like that will clip along at over 70 mph!

Nice comeback from the other day, Ptah! I didn't mean to be such a buzzkill on your other thread, but I am fascinated by trains and those Great Northern locomotives piqued my interest. I thought you might like to know it wasn't just an accident, but a tragedy as well.

Nice post and cool vid!

Edit to say. Neat to see that Norfolk Southern Power unit leading 3 UP units on what is surely Union Pacific right of way. I saw an interesting combo today, with a UP unit leading a "Ferromex" unit leading another UP. Ferromex being the largest railroad company in Mexico.
