Mad Allen's Hole

At Bickerton Hill, Cheshire, there is a cave called Mad Allen's Hole. It is believed to have been the residence of John Harris born in 1710 who gave up a life of privilege when his parents forbade him to marry the woman of his choice. As there are no 18th century remnants at the site, this story is highly doubtful. The name Mad Allen's Hole originated in the 19th century when the cave was occupied by a recluse of less prestigious pedigree.

Near Mad Allen's Hole there are three heads or skulls carved into the rock face. Like this:
