(10,575 posts)Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson didn't just talk about the eerie reality of living as a meme at the live taping of On The Verge; he also argued that he's been unfairly blamed with the death of Pluto. "All I did was drive the getaway car," he claims, and that the killer was actually astronomer Mike Brown, author of How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming. Defending the decision though, Dr. Tyson explained, "If Neptune were analogized with a Chevy Impala in mass, then how big is pluto compared to that? Pluto would be a matchbox car sitting on the curb."

(58,645 posts)He's smart, has personality, knows his stuff, very serious about science, but in a likeable way.
My only concern is the network producing it.

(14,400 posts)I really like Tyson. Not only is he brilliant he's really nice.
We bumped into him at the American Museum of Natural History where he heads up the Planetarium and he patiently and happily answered all kinds of really "dumb" questions by my kids.

(3,121 posts)is stupid. He loves to hear questions.

(14,400 posts)you could tell he was busy and yet he knelt down listened to the kids questions and then answered every one.
Not only that he answered them really well, right at their level not too simplistic and not too complex.

(3,709 posts)My hero is Carl Sagan and the original Cosmos was amazing. I adore Neil deGrasse Tyson, and think he is a worthy successor to Sagan. He's wicked smart, witty, personable... love the guy.

(21,020 posts)Plan to watch it, and am familiar with Dr Tyson
He has a somewhat dry and mischievous sense of humor and no doubt will do justice to Carl Sagan's Cosmos series legacy
Can't wait to see it!

(10,888 posts)I truly miss Carl Sagan, and DeGrasse Tyson has that same unrestrained joy in science, and the ability to communicate and simplify things that Carl had.
He has a nice podcast called "Startalk" that I quite enjoy.
I'm kind of glad it will be on Fox, for viewership. I think we are sorely in need of scientific literacy these days.

(21,046 posts)According to the profile of Dr. Tyson in the New Yorker, called "STAR MAN", he and Ann Druyan went to all the networks and Fox was the only one that would give them complete editorial control.
Ann Druyan is writer and lead executive producer for the new series. She wrote a large portion of the old series.
I have the old revised version COSMOS on DVD.
