Question about "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" Spoiler

After Martin Vanger was killed, was his crimes uncovered to the family and police?

In the movie we see Mikael burn his research information. I'm assuming no one knows what he did as well as his father.

but, I remember Martin Vanger committing suicide by ramming his sports car into a truck, or something like that. I know Harriett knew about it, obviously. I think the police were told, but I don't really remember for sure.
