in fact, the desktop publishing house (back in the early '90s, when that was a thing) where I worked briefly had an ISP co-located with it.

I switched over to disability advocacy right before Nineleven(TM).

I had come to Hawai'i (hence KamaAina, "local Hawai'i person&quot with a telemedicine startup. The guy running it was a big enough jackass that he kept ticking off all of the many contacts I was able to scare up for him. Just when I was thinking I'd have to return to the mainland with my tail between my legs, I saw an ad from the equivalent agency out there to where I work now.

...is doing her master's thesis on internet accessibility. so frustrating for her because her advisors are all like: "wha? why is that important?"

because its website wasn't accessible. That's one good reason. People buy stuff over the intertubes. Especially people who don't drive.
