When 44-year-old Kevin Coleman arrived at his ex-wife's home on Monday to pick up their daughter, 24-year-old Carlos Vasquez told him to leave.
Coleman explained that he had called ahead to get his daughter. Still upset, police say Vasquez grabbed a scythe with a 12-inch blade and began swinging it at Coleman while threatening his life, according to The Post.
Coleman was unharmed and Vasquez was arrested on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.

(14,881 posts)and if you are cutting grass, just gently swinging from hip to hip while doing the 'old man shuffle" forward with the blade sliding along on the ground mows it down
Cutting brush may take more force from the scyther, or the shorter blade may simply concentrate the force of a normal swing into a smaller space for more power. I'll find out this summer when I start using my new, custom-fitted 30" scythe to keep my fenceline clear and beat back the goldenrod that's trying to take over once and for all.
(the 30" blade is best for mixed scything. you get some of the economy of a 4' blade, but some of the power of the 24" .
In any event, going after somebody with a sharp scythe is definitely assault with a deadly weapon. They should be sharp enough to shave (tested on arm, of course).
