(22,756 posts)I had a Trek hybrid but while in Vermont there are many more good dirt roads and trail than paved... so decided to go to a Mountain Bike which I can use both on trail and off if I want

(16,950 posts)It was supposed to be here today, but it didn't come in. I'll try to post a pic of it, too.
What kind of Trek hybrid did you have? I just talked to the bike shop again because I've been seeing people sitting flat-footed on ther bikes at stop lights, and mine will be too tall for that, but that's what everyone said I needed.
I love your bike! That is beautiful. Mine is white as well, and I have to admit that I got the Trek 7.3 because of that color. You sound like you ride enough to know for sure what you want. You must be thrilled!

(22,756 posts)my old one is a Trek 7.3 and it is an awesome bike also.... you will love it

(16,950 posts)Actually, that color is stunning. I did look closely at that as well -- it's sort of a sort of beautiful silver/grey. I think they change the colors every couple years or so, so I'm not sure that exact color was available, but the silver they had was really beautiful.
I must say that you have very good taste. I'm impressed with how new that Trek looks. That's even the kind of bike rack I want for the back. Gorgeous! You've taken good care of it.
I hope you post about your fun rides. I like that mountain bike!
you should be able to STAND flat footed but not flat footed sitting on your seat
"While in the saddle, your feet should not touch the ground and your leg should be almost completely extended at the bottom of the pedal stroke. You ought to be able to straddle the top tube fairly easily with your feet flat on the ground"
R B Garr
(16,950 posts)you want a full leg extension so you use your muscles to pedal and not your joints (if it's too short). I still have 2-3 inches clearance from the top tube, so I went with the higher bike frame (19" , although they said I was in between the 17" and 19", and they confirmed again today the taller bike is better in the long run.
Exciting! You sound very experienced in the biking area. It's fun!

(10,095 posts)Hi,
I'm a bit confused by your sizing. I hope you have some clearance from the top tube with your feet flat on the ground, while standing off the seat. Enjoy your new bike.
Peace

(16,950 posts)I think it's around 2 inches or so...? I kind of forget because it was close to a week ago already. I'm 5'8" and had some thick soled Nike's on that put me a little taller. I guess I don't have much to compare it to because I'm just now kind of "graduating" to a fitness bike after playing around on a comfort/cruiser, so I don't know what to expect. But I definitely won't be getting on a fast road bike for some time, that's for sure, lol. They still intimidate me.
What do you ride, if you don't mind me asking...? You sound experienced at this, too. Thanks for your comment about the sizing.
Hi,
I have a 8-9 year old Trek 7.3 that I have beat the living heck out of and it still rides great, I use that to commute to work on. I liked the Trek hybrids so much I got a 7.6 last year just to ride. I rode the most I ever have last year, I was obsessed with mileage, I'm trying to get away from that obsession. Now I want another bike, not sure when the madness will end!
Peace
R B Garr
(16,950 posts)handmade. Enjoy your 7.6. I just looked it up, and...WOW. Very nice. I love that silver/grey color.
I guess you can tell the mileage by a bike odometer...? I haven't looked into that yet, but I can see how mileage is an obsession because you want to keep challenging yourself.
Now to figure out the best bike rack... The one we have is just okay. It's done the job so far. Longer trips, however, and we'll need something more secure. I'm really wanting to try and bike that 17-Mile-Drive in Monterey, CA. It's so beautiful.
handmade34
(22,756 posts)check in when you get your bike and tell us how you like it... Monterey trail sounds wonderful (maybe work will take me out there this year?)... one of my favorite trails in the MRT (Mississippi River Trail) especially through Louisiana...
R B Garr
(16,950 posts)It's everything I had hoped for in a bike, and I'm so happy I made the change from the cruiser hybrid. I saw in one of your posts your first bike was a Diamondback, and that's what my cruiser is. If I keep going the way you are with bikes, then my next bike is a mountain bike, lol. I could handle that!
The Mississippi River Trail looks beautiful. Maybe some day! I hope you can make it this year to 17-Mile Drive if you travel for work. It's so stunningly beautiful.

I actually started with motorcycles about 30 years ago... totaled my awesome Honda CMT 400 and ended up with 7 surgeries and years of healing... Long story, but I wasn't driving, was a passenger on same bike
only bought my first bicycle a few years ago... stated with a nice Diamondback- went to a fold-up (thinking it would be easier to travel with- nope but loved it anyways) and then the Trek and now the Mountain Bike... I have many years of riding ahead (if I live long enough)

(10,095 posts)Hi,
Your new bike looks pretty awesome. There is a Bicycling forum here, but the traffic is real light. I now want a cross and a fat bike to plow through snow and other stuff, those things look like a hell of a workout though.
I'm glad you are out there after all that recovery, sounds horrible.
I'm off to ride home in this dang chilly spring day, I'm ready for some sun!
Peace

(2,749 posts)Is that a 29er?
If so, what is your thoughts on that wheel size? I've been thinking about moving to one of those.
Sexy ride
handmade34
(22,756 posts)(at my ripe old age) but I feel pretty awesome riding it!!
it is a 29er and I LOVE it! It is about as light as you can get without going Carbon frame and the shocks are great; it is really smooth
