Dan Snyder has decided to remove the offensive word in his team's nickname. His team will soon be known as the Maryland Redskins.

The name Indians in itself is not offensive (to me at least), but that buck-toothed mascot is a whole 'nother story. Put it in the dumpster.

As for Washington, I'd change the name to the Washington Renegades

Some other suggestions for re-naming the Washington team here:

and use a mascot that kind of looks like this guy, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighting_Whites
but instead of a guy in a gray flannel suit and briefcase, the Lobbyist would be top hat and monocle and would have a bag of "money" that he would throw out after each touch down.
The Renegades reminds me of a KC Royals farm team, the Wichita Wranglers. Being retired Air Force, I like the Red Tails the best.
The Warriors are OK, but I wouldn't have that style of army helmet in gray. It is a little like naming your German Sheppard Blondie.

As for Washington-the name is just cringe worthy.

In honor of what the Cuyahoga River was on, more times than it should have been. It's also a cool name.

The football team is a problem, in that everything anyone's come up with references government corruption. I KINDA like the Washington Scarabs.

Go back to the long-ago name of the Spiders, and cut a promotional deal with Disney/Marvel/Sony to use Spider-Man.
For Washington, maybe the Warriors? It scans okay with the town, and keeps the martial feel.
