The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI need a lot of movie ideas....
One of my favorite co-workers may (as may I) listen to music and watch movies while we're working. Our job is to call people that have inquired about our products and we call back and often times get voice mails, not in service, etc. He and I have, for the most part, the same taste. I'm a movie person big time so I have some ideas of what he'd like. I'd love to hear some suggestions from my fantastic DU pals. Here are some of my suggestions. (I'd like to stick with dramas and comedies)
Dramas
Primal Fear
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead
A Simple Plan
Comedies
Idocracy
Thanks for more ideas!

(43,173 posts)The IT (as in Information Technology) Crowd
It stars Chris O'Dowd (the love interest in Bridesmaids) and Richard Ayoade (he's been in a couple of films such as Ben Stiller's comedy The Watch) as two lazy IT tech guys in the basement of a large corporation. At first, it might just seem like a typical laugh-track style comedy, but the plots can get so hilarious absurd to the point I was literally in tears laughing.

(29,414 posts)I recall there was a British science-fiction show that was also a comedy, yet I only saw parts of it. I can't remember the name now (Hyperspace, maybe?) but did think it was pretty good for sci-fi comedy.
Of course, there's always Red Dwarf

(28,552 posts).... this is a great comedy series. O'Dowd's answer to every tech support call "did you try turning it off and back on again"?

(43,173 posts)Really, it's six movies rolled into one, so you'll get not only drama and comedy, but also Sci Fi, action thriller and post-apocalyptic in there as well. Some people really didn't like it, but others (myself included) loved it. It's beautifully shot and an ambitious adaptation of a novel that people thought couldn't be made into a movie. Plus the unique method of using the same actors in the different stories in different roles.
I love Idiocracy. Probably one of my Top 10 movies. Brawndo's got what plants crave--it's got electolytes!

(287 posts)You've probably seen these, but...
Leon: The Professional
Pulp Fiction
Natural Born Killers
Ruthless People is one of the funniest movies ever made, but a good 10 years earlier than you're looking for. Too good not to recommend.
Go ahead, laugh, but I loved Clueless
Heathers is a must!
One other oldie (feels funny calling it an oldie, if this is an oldie, what's Casablanca?) too good to leave out -- Body Heat
I could do this all day
