It is not that uncommon for surgeons to find a healthy pink appendix, despite signs of appendicitis (some food borne pathogens can cause severe abdominal pain mimicking appendicitis). While most surgeons would go ahead and perform a "prophylactic" removal of the appendix, this is probably one case where they chose not to, yet failed to inform the patient. ... underscores the need for good communication between health care provider and patient to avoid so much litigation.

They also sent a mass of tissue to the pathologist marked "appendix" which evidently wasn't an appendix.

cancerous kidney. It was the same doctor who was treating my father for kidney stones.
