The Druid's Egg
The Druid's Egg, hag stone, serpent's egg or adder stone is a naturally occurring glossy stone with a hole in the middle. It was believed to protect against evil, confer upon one the ability to see fairy traps, and aid in recovery from snakebites. An adder stone will float on water. It was mistakenly believed to be the hardened saliva excreted by a mass of serpents. The holes in the adder stone are bored by dripping water, in most cases.
