One of my favorite jazz tunes
Waltz For Debby by the towering master of jazz piano, Bill Evans. As a 12 year old kid, I remember eagerly riding my bike to the record store in the very early 1960s to pick up his album of the same name (my jazz guitar teacher had told me about it). The 31 time Grammy Award winner is considered by many to be the most influential jazz musician of the past 60 years because of his innovative approach to reharmonization. Unfortunately, he struggled through the losses of several people close to him and became a drug addict and that's probably what killed him before his time. From his wikipedia page:

"...William John Evans, known as Bill Evans (pronunciation: /ˈɛvəns/, August 16, 1929 September 15, 1980), was an American jazz pianist and composer who mostly worked in a trio setting. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time,[2] and is considered by some to have been the most influential post-World War II jazz pianist.[3] Evans's use of impressionist harmony, inventive interpretation of traditional jazz repertoire, block chords, and trademark rhythmically independent, "singing" melodic lines continue to influence jazz pianists today. ..."
