Mine would have to be "Let It Go".
I was raised with a conservative, heavily Republican father. I grew hearing that phrase "Don't be THAT girl".
Well, his ideas were never mine. I tried to not rock the boat, but I was not going to live my life the way he said "girls" should. And over time I have learned that to let go and be yourself is the best way to go. May be painful in the start, but worth the fight!
So, what is your special song?

like Bob Dylan's Girl From the North Country which has been a long-time favorite. But I think maybe you're asking if a particular song has affected your outlook on life or personal philosophy. More and more I've found this song reflecting my way of thinking. It's a tune I heard when I spent a year in France during the 1960s entitled La Montagne (the Mountain) by Jean Ferrat. The song is a lament about the fact that young people are leaving the simple life of the countryside because they are charmed by the modernism of the cities and are forgetting the old ways of their ancestors. They end up living meaningless lives in crowded apartment buildings eating chicken raised on hormones and no longer appreciate the beauty of the mountain.
As I've grown older I've become more and more skeptical about the almost religious belief that people have in the supposed positive benefits of progress, of science, modernity, industrialization, and commercialization. To me, the rejection or simple ignorance of the past and where we come from can lead to the emptiness of modern life.

It came to mean so very much to me, and still does:

(30,947 posts)When I married my ex-husband, we lived in Florida and eloped to Georgia. Then another part of the song brings back the memory of when we traveled to Los Angeles where we lived for a year.
And this one. Brandy was a friend of mine and died last year at the age of 35. She had Marfan syndrome. People with this disease usually never live past their 30s. She survived 5 heart transplants. I think she told me her parents named her from this song.
