That our Golden can help herself to pieces...
Even as such, she'd probably have that piece whittled away to a pile of mulch in no time!

(961 posts)Your beautiful girl reminds me of my late Golden, Gwyn. He too liked to chew wood. His favorites were Maple, Birch and Pine. My mother loved when we visited. He would go into the yard and drag blow down from the Maple trees onto her porch for a leisurely chew. My mother would then take it and put it in her wood box. He would go get another, she would take that. Repeat. By the time we would leave, her wood boxes would be full and her yard pretty much free of branches. Mom always said he was her favorite granddog.
On one camp out, Gwyn and I arrived at our sight. As I unloaded and set up camp, Gwyn walks over to the edge of our sight, grabs a branch and pulls. He tugs and tugs and suddenly out springs a a 2" by 9 foot long maple branch. That piece of dried wood was his chew toy for the entire weekend. When we left, Gwyn had whittled that branch down to 2 feet long! Well, for the next couple of days, I could have used his poop for kindling. Wood pretty much passes throw unchanged by the digestion process! (He never showed any signs of distress during this event and from that point on, I monitored his wood addiction closely!)
Thanks for bringing up good memories!
Edit to add: His vet said Gwyn had very healthy teeth and gums, all the way up to final days! Wood floss!
