Yesterday I went to the optometrist. I got a NEW set of contact lenses. I had been limping along on ONE contact for a few weeks (ugh). My eyes have not gotten any worse. My eyes are healthy, albeit with nearsightedness and astigmatism. My blood pressure was the lowest I've seen it in years (105/70). I was able to pay the bill comfortably. I am fortunate to have health insurance that paid part of the bill.
All good news ! It made my life a bit happier. What's your small joy ?

(15,803 posts)It's raining. Hrrmph.
Let's see... My 16 yo scored a summer research gig today. I was jumping up and down for a minute there.
But it's still raining. I'm having a hard time smiling through the rain. I may be a bit sad tonight.

(3,908 posts)I have been staying away from coffee and bingo to try to accomplish some healthy weight loss and sugar stability. After some begging on her part I told Auntie that the only thing I would let them tempt me with is a home made peanut butter cookie , a bit of a hassle so not as popular as making bars and cake around here.
Today when I got up from my nap there was a perfectly perfect small size home made peanut butter cookie. The pusher was happy, Auntie was happy and I was happy for choosing my exception to work so well and taste so good.

(4,078 posts)My daughter has been sick with a cold, but was finally feeling better enough to play the piano tonight. She's working on some new pieces, but played my favorite Beethoven piece like a pro. Even though I have her cold now, it made me smile.
Thanks for reminding us that simple joys are worth celebrating, just like the big ones.

(11,791 posts)My bank account got hacked. But someone-the bank has no idea who- called and alerted me to it. I will say that it was my grandpa or grandma calling me from beyond to warn me (and I'm not religious).
But I did get a new GPS (replacing the one stolen about a month ago), and I had a few beers with a friend. So, not a terrible day.
And today, my sissy, brother in law, and nephews arrive!!

Nothing like a minor league baseball game with $1 beers to make a girl smile. Oh, and the guy I'm going with is pretty cool too.

fortunately today is the last day of the cold spell. Any day that I see
hummers at our feeders is a good day because we're in a migratory zone
and only see them from April-October.

(72,300 posts)I thought it was a dead egg until I picked it up to toss it out. As I held the tiny little egg in my hand, I felt very strong movement inside. Four adults were sitting on the back nest so I chased 'em and replaced the egg. Yesterday, I saw the baby I saved.
Oh, and the check really was in the mail this time. It turned out to be a one third of a past due payment for work that I completed last year.
