The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI've got 2 very scared 5-week old kittens in my bathroom...found them this a.m.
Although, I should say I trapped them this morning and have been seeing them for about a week...females, one is a tortie and her sister is a Calico with a little tortie in them...they're going to be beautiful cats, so I'm sure someone will adopt them, but I need to socialize them...did a little earlier, but they're still scared...photos when they've calmed down. They both look very healthy, which is good.

(56,177 posts)although they keep knocking their bowl of replacement milk over, and the dry, although they eat all the wet...I need to bottle feed them this evening...they really do need to stay on the milk for about another 2 weeks.

(14,807 posts)you need to also have other people around them otherwise they will only like you and not others. We are still training two ferals that are now nearly 10 months old. We have had them since they were four. That was when we caught them so it is taking awhile. Now they are very socialized but still slightly skittish. Hope I can find a good home for them though. I am maxed out on pets. Am sure yours will come around nicely.

(56,177 posts)two...they're beautiful so that shouldn't be a problem.

(11,862 posts)and me...I picked up the kitten and he/she scratched the hell out of me and ran for his/her life...I would have loved to have taken this kitten in...but he/she had other plans.

(56,177 posts)The calico is especially docile when I have her, although that might just be fear right now!

(12,503 posts)Go lay down on the bathroom floor with an open can of tuna and that should make short work of the socializing thing.

(56,177 posts)but waiting until I leave...they figured out the small litter box already, which is good.
lululu
(301 posts)you don't want them drowning.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Big enough for food, a litter box and a bed...tehy'll stay in there a couple days execept when I take them out...for sopme reason, enclosed places make them feel safer...as for the lid...once they get old enough they'll get so curious they'll take a dive...all of mine did that!!!

(14,807 posts)I don't do facebook...though...but I'm sure it's cute!

(56,177 posts)Is the tabby a female...most tabbys I've heard are male, but I think she's got enough light brown to tp the scales!
glinda
(14,807 posts)I used to have a beautiful female tabby. She died less than a year ago. They are both sweet and still am hopeful that I can find a home for them together as they spend all time together and are very loving of each other and protective. I paid for spay/neut/shots. exam...etc.....lots of money but I sold a couple dolls I owned and had it done as I want no more babies! They are both on the smallish side but very healthy.
WhiteTara
(29,704 posts)in the height of the winter storms. He lived in our basement for almost a month before he could trust us enough to come upstairs and let someone touch him. He's about half way socialized, but he was almost a year old when he came and had been on his own for some months.
Picabo wakes up every day and looks amazed that he is sleeping on the end of our bed and knows he'll be fed when I get up. He's really starting to come into his own.
Good luck

(56,177 posts)enough so that it shouldn't take too long!
WhiteTara
(29,704 posts)with a big smile on his face as he sleeps. Every day he stays on my lap longer and longer. I think one day he'll learn how to purr.

(56,177 posts)He will...it will surprise you, too!

(29,704 posts)The original thought was PeekaBoo...but this is much classier!
Skittles
(153,150 posts)what is unique about them is they retain that sense of the wild much more than kitties who never lived outdoors - adopted ferals know two worlds
WhiteTara
(29,704 posts)and he's aggressive and wants to be alpha kitty. Next week, he'll accept his younger status.

(153,150 posts)you've described my Riff Raff perfectly! There's something very special about cats like Picabo and Riff Raff

(10,164 posts)Lucky to be rescued, and lucky that you found them so young, as socializing them should be a snap. Torties have the most wonderful (if very independent and feisty) personalities! There seems to be some behavioral stuff linked to the genes that produce that amazing coloring.
Even at a comfortably middle aged nine years old (just turned last Thursday!), my Spookie has her "tortitude" moments. the expression says it all:
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Could be a relative...the torie jumped the first time I tried to touch her, so I let her be for a bit, then when I did pick her up, she peed all over me! Glad to know the plumbing's working!
