(6,261 posts)In Roslyn, WA. I considered turning up when there was a casting call for extras, but you had to be there at some ungodly hour like 5 AM or so, and I gave it a miss. Same with Twin Peaks, filmed in part around Fall City and Snoqualmie. I never did watch Northern Exposure, but I do regret the opportunity to be an extra on Twin Peaks now as I became quite a fan of that show 20 years later.

and was really disappointed to discover that she's among the wingnuttiest of wingnuts. Then she dyed her hair platinum blond and had it cut in a style similar to a former coworker of mine who I still hate with the blazing-hot intensity of a billion red giant suns even though I haven't worked with her in years. That didn't help.
Edit: Ugh. She's a Tea Party supporter, too.

(50,916 posts)Fabulous line from the pilot: "I've tried making pets out of squirrels, but I think they lack commitment."
And did you ever notice that when they showed a mug book, the other photos were always things like biker-gang guys in wedding veils, or dogs in fedoras?

(9,898 posts)First show that treated Native People like normal individuals. Ed was cool, and his assistant (played by a Filipino woman) were very likable characters.

(204,779 posts)So many shows are just remakes or copycats of others. Northern Exposure was something new and different with interesting characters and great writing. I worked with CBS for the run of that show, used to write about it often because it was one of my favorites, always something interesting to say about that show. One that sticks in my mind was when Holling and Ruth Ann learned that one of their grandfathers ate the other during a long ago blizzard...

(204,779 posts)I rarely watch network TV anymore, the shows are just not entertaining and so few of the characters are even likable. Great to see you, my friend!

(17,175 posts)Possibly the high point of the series for me was when Maggie broke his nose.
Kind of like when Buntz decked the chief in Hill Street Blues. I jumped out of the chair and shouted "YESSSS!!! Finally!"

I do wish they're air some reruns somewhere.

(287 posts)No, not Northern Exposure, Pushing Daisies. Since its premature cancellation it's all doctors, cops, lawyers, paranormal and reality. IOW, a full slate of crap. No more "different" programming since, and it's been a few years now. As it was, it was slim pickin's (not the actor), but at least we got an occasional different, creative show like Ugly Betty or Desperate Housewives. The last oasis is cable, where we can still find shows like Dexter and Breaking Bad. But network television seems to have thrown in the towel insofar as innovative, creative TV goes. Fortunately I'm a baseball junkie and subscribe to MLB Extra Innings, so I don't want for what to watch from April to October. But when baseball season ends I have to scrounge for stuff to watch. There are a few good sitcoms, like Big Bang, but there are no "hour shows" on network TV worth watching. Not a one.
Bring back thirtysomething!! Or My So-Called Life. Or Gilmore Girls. Or Ed!! Anything but CSI: Outer Mongolia!
