It is so seldom that you get to see the plotter get his comeuppance. All the people he tried to turn, turned on him. Now THAT's poetic justice. Good riddance Horik.
But, who is going to pay for slaughtering the children?

(3,926 posts)I would like to apply for the advertised "Warrior" position. My previous raiding experience includes raids of keeps, farms, outposts and camps in Guild Wars 2 and Elderscrolls Online. I also know how to make seriously tasty sandwiches, and am rather musically talented (singing is out of the question). Currently, I am working towards a seriously nordic influenced hairstyle, and have not shaved my face in over a month.
I am open to negotiating wages, though I would prefer a percentage of the gold we find.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Regards,
Ric Fry.
P.S. I can also bring my own shieldmaiden, Phoebe McDonald

P.S. Do you have Athelstan's phone number?

The night of the blood eagle was rather hard to take, though. Bwah.

My favorite character is the priest.

(55,894 posts)I know the show isn't close to being accurate, but that was so anachronistic and unlikely.

(2,086 posts)Christianity is rife with horrific tortures and executions. Remember, the concerns of the Inquisition, centuries later, were witchcraft and Satan worship, but heathens and apostates were always punished with extreme earnestness.
Christians were, after all, one step away from paganism in most cases. In the 7th century Saxon England,, many Christians were actually converted Pagans.
It was a most unkind world.
Love the series, especially Floki and Helga. Cute couple.

(17,742 posts)Maybe I need to watch it again.
Who were the girls that Bjorn told to run? Were they Horik's other daughters? If so, why weren't they all killed?
And what happened to Horik's son?
I'm so glad Floki didn't betray Ragnar. He and Athelstan are my favorite characters besides Ragnar.
What did the ending mean? Was that cold weather from the altitude, or did it signify the passage of time?
????
Brigid
(17,621 posts)I think the girls were Horik's daughters. Maybe Bjorn just didn't think it was necessary that they be killed? Unfortunately, I imagine Horik's son probably did die, though. As for the rest, I guess we gotta wait until next year.

(50,130 posts)Even though the series isn't strictly true to the history, there are a lot of tidbits you can learn about the characters by searching them on wikipedia. Very interesting.
We know, for example, how Ragnar will die. And what his sons will do.

(45,850 posts)Google Rollo and seeing as how according to Michael Hirst season 3 will include the sacking of Paris-it may well pan out
grasswire
(50,130 posts)I'm finding this all very interesting as it puts visual images to the history that I already know. However, Rollo was not Ragner's brother.

(45,850 posts)but he's your ancestor, cool is William the Conqueror also?
All this was sure a surprise to me when I started doing my genealogy a couple of years ago. Never thought about Viking ancestry!

(42,239 posts)a neighbour / ex-girlfriend comes round to watch Game of Thrones. I've hated that little bastard since the beginning but every time in the past I've asked her when he was going to die she wouldn't tell me - she's read all of the books.
When he coughed it I clenched my fist, jumped and shouted "yes - hoo fucking ray about time too"
The last time a recall hating anyone that much was Richard Gere in Internal Affairs.

(45,850 posts)and who's going to pay for slaughtering Horik's kids my guess is no one-I knew what was going to happen when Lagertha was told to leave
and a peek at what will be happening in season 3
you mentioned earlier that were time jumping again when we come back, so does that mean we can expect to see new locations next season?
Were in a new place, because Ragnar is a king now. Halfway through season three, were going to attack Paris theres a famous Vikings attack on the city of Paris. And they attacked with 120 ships. So this new season, we go from eight ships to 120 ships. You have to go up in scale. One of the wonderful things about the show is how it truthfully began with small undertakings, like one ship traveling, trying to find England. In the second season, there are bigger attacks on England, and then season three, halfway through, well be with 120 ships attacking Paris. So we have this new scale, we have Ragnar as a king with everything that entails, in terms of responsibility and his own wishes and desires. And so for me, its another great wonderful challenge, because the two main things in Vikings which run parallel are the visceral element of it, and the battle of politics. And the other side of it is the personal side and the family side. And Ragnar being a family man, and his wife and ex-wife being inextricably linked. And all those things go on again side-by-side.

(46,676 posts)There were so many twists in the Vikings finale it was almost hard to keep track.
It turns out, Floki's (Gustaf Skarsgard) allegiance with Horik (Donal Logue) was all an elaborate ruse to catch the King off guard. (That's good news for Torstein, whose death was merely faked to win Horik's trust.) Horik was then forced to walk across the great hall while Ragnar's supporters each took a turn at the fallen king until Ragnar brutally finished him off using just his head!
So, Horik's dead, Floki's back to being a good guy (so much so that he even helped heal Rollo) and Ragnar is the king. Gustaf Skarsgard and Donal Logue spoke to TVGuide.com to share their thoughts on Floki's double-cross, Horik's death and more.

The Second Stone
(2,900 posts)Rollo was given them directly. They were thus vulnerable to attack. and the Torstein was supposedly violently attacked by someone nobody saw. Covered with pig's blood. Floki overacted being overwrought, making him look guilty. All quite a piece.

Although glad Horik is dead, I will miss the actor. That guy has consistently elevated shows he's guest starred on.
