(In 1855 Pedro Carolino set out to write a Portuguese/English phrasebook. It is widely believed that Carolino could not speak English, and that a French-English dictionary was used to translate an earlier Portuguese-French phrase book, resulting in his tome, "English as She is Spoke." Hilarity ensued.)

It was from this major literary work that come such well-formed phrases as 'To craunch the marmoset', 'The stone as roll not heap up not foam', and the hitherto completely underused 'Keep the chestnut of the fire with the cat foot.'
