I've never deliberately missed a flight before; it's a weird feeling.

My boyfriend and i were supposed to go to his daughter-in-law's college graduation this weekend in Dallas. I was flying from Norfolk and he was going to fly from DC. Because his son works for American Airlines, he gets family flight privileges, so it's free for him, if there's room. He paid for my ticket.

He calls me this morning and tells me that, because of the bad weather in Dallas yesterday, the early flights to Dallas today were all booked. They were trying to clear the backlog of passengers whose flights were canceled yesterday. Obviously paying passengers take precedence over those who are bumming a ride. And because my flight was scheduled to leave at 11; he decided to bail on the trip altogether, rather than trying to get on a later flight and possibly failing, leaving me in Dallas alone.

Still, it's a weird feeling to miss a flight on purpose. And I feel bad that he is out the money for my ticket. But I think he can cancel the car and hotel without penalty.

On the plus side, since I'd already gotten today off, I don't feel so guilty about not going in this morning, although I could have.
