It was a great car and I used it very heavily. The transmission gave out at 229k and it was the odd ball 4 speed with 5th gear solenoid engaged overdrive. Couldn't find another and so I scrapped the car and bought a new one.

Circular bends are metric, this car gave out after 229,000 elongated elipses. According to my conversion this car gave out after approximately 826,000 circular bends, quite a feat.

7. My old 240 just became too complicated to keep at 240,000 miles

Because the key was broken off in the ignition, I had to use a screwdriver to turn it. Because the electrical system was flawed, I had to disengage the battery when not running. Because the hood latch was broken at the interior release, I had to use a crochet hook to open the hood, so as to engage or disengage the battery. Etc. I didn't see any point in fixing any of that, as I knew it was going to be a money pit eventually. Yet, the motor ran well, the transmission was fine, and it was as tough as a warthog. I sold it on eBay for $35. LOL.

8. Several years ago one of my father's employees was showing off his Volvo that he just purchased.

Apparently, my father was not showing the expected enthusiasm. The employee said, "I once had a Volvo that I drove for ten years and it had more than 200,000 miles on it". My father said "It looks like somebody else already did that with this one".

The car did look look like a piece of junk. I don't remember how long he drove the car.
