My husband smart a$$ comment bought this up. We where talking about who he'd went gaga over. And than he's like be my Amidala for me. I'm was like no There is no way I'm going to be a wimp.
And it occured to me that Lucas really was kind of cruel with the Amidala Character. He made her so wimpy while Leia had a backbone and yet still got the man.

(2,935 posts)Padme died of despair, having ushered Palpatine into power, watching democracy crumble and enabling her disturbed husband.
Leia's less interesting, but she kicked ass and tamed Han Solo.
(Still, you should take the Amidala comment as a compliment, since Natalie Portman is a thousand times sexier than Carrie Fisher.)

But Leia over Amidala by light years.
Leia was portrayed as a strong person and capable leader, although IMHO she was underused, especially considering she was the only female character of any significance.
Padme wasn't terrible as the queen wanting to share her people's fate in Ep. One. But starting in Episode Two she did nothing of any consequence that I remember, her only purpose seemed to make schmoopy eyes as Anakin. And considering that Anakin was such a complete and utter tool, it made her look bad by association.
