for the longest time because it looked like fun to read books all the time, garden and do what you want. Then, when I moved to Nova Scotia to go to college, I dreamt that I would fall in love with a ship's captain, who wore a cream cableknit sweater and lived in a lighthouse (the Irish Spring guy). I ended up living alone and love it. I feel I am a lucky person to be so living my dreams.

(20,176 posts)Still looking. I always thought I'd be the stay-at-home parent who wrote books and maybe taught a class at the learning annex.

Personally, I wanted to be a "horse woman" for a long time, which apparently involved some amorphous job in which people would give me money to pet, groom and ride horses. Then I wanted to be a Left Banker in Paris. I could still go for that one!

(30,947 posts)My mother was married 3 times and my father 5 times. I never wanted to end up like them, but my first marriage did not work out. I never remarried because I did not want to go through another divorce.

(10,595 posts)I know it sounds stupid and cliche, but I always wanted to end up with a woman who was either my best friend or pretty damn close to being my best friend. Maybe that's why I have always been attracted to tomboys - they like to do lots of the same stuff I like to do!

(8,492 posts)I wanted to be a single mother. Which I became at 18. But, I forgot to go back to school to get my law degree so I missed the other part of my fantasy. Now, the kid is grown and I'm married for the second time. I was always told that I'm "not the marrying kind". The Husband is pretty patient, though.
